Cartwheels and Pearls

It all happened kind of suddenly...
just kidding.
 For about 4 years we've been planning on getting a puppy. Things just haven't worked out. It wasn't the right time or the right breeder.
But this year, for Father's Day, we picked up the sweet little green colored puppy from a breeder an hour away as a gift for my dad.
We named her Rory. Her registered (official name or what not) has yet to be chosen. Any ideas? We were thinking of "Mikey's Girl Rory" or something of the sorts. Maybe something that has to do with Aurora? She's a beautiful Brittany Spaniel and we got to meet her whole entire family. Like sisters, mom, dad, grandmother, and even the great grandmother.










She's made it a bit hard to finish my to-do list (well mostly to-craft) but I'm managing!

Since we're redoing our basement, we're changing everything around. There's a trunk in my living room that I wanted to hold movies. There was a catch though... it was already holding CDs.
I needed to find a new place to hold the CDs since I had my heart set on using the trunk.
I found an old box from a robot kit. What? Anyway, I figured it was perfect.


I cut the corners and then wrapped up the box.

This was the trunk I wanted. I'm thinking about filling in the scratches, repainting it, and then distressing it.

There were SO many more CD's than I thought. I had to use both the lid and the bottom to hold them.
I even found we had 10 Simon and Garfunkel CD's. Who even needs that much? Well we got rid of a bunch of kids CDs and empty cases. We stored the boxes under a table that used to be in the basement. The table sits behind the couch and is totally out of sight. Woo. No one has to see it and I get to have my little trunk in the basement! Woo. More to come about it.

I decided I wanted to try it. I have this secret talent that I don't often share. I'm actually really good at braiding. French, Dutch, waterfall, fishtail, whatever. Anyway, I found my sister and made her let me try this on her I did a french braid that started at one side of her head, went to the other and then curved back into a bun. It was actually super simple!


I did a successful messy bun for the first time. It's one of my downfalls really. I just can't do it!
My sisters hair is really unbraidable. It likes to sit in place and not be messed with. Plus it's really short so I feel pretty successful with the results of this... besides the fact that there was a slight bald patch that I left in the first picture. hahahaha. woops.

So then I tried it again. It looked okay but I still wasn't like totally amazed with it. So I tried it again with her hair slightly damp. It looked great! Here's the outcome of the third time:



My sister finally lost patience when I tried to get some pictures of the front.
I found it was easier to part the hair parallel to the forehead to create the head band part and put the rest of the hair in a loose pony tail.
 When the headband part is all braided, simply take the hair bandout and do the curve around braid. Braid the braided part to the very end of it and hair band it off.

This will prevent any of it from coming out. Simply gather the rest of the hair into a pony tail and then add the little braid to it.

Secure the whole hair into a ponytail and take out the hairband that was in the little braid. If anyone would be interested, I can do video or step by step picture tutorials.
